| Description | The sets of the four partbooks are titled: Discantus, Altus, Tenor and Bassus. Each cover bears the Polish eagle, the initials "S 2 [flipped upside down] R P" [Sigismundus II Rex Poloniae] and the date "1539" at the bottom. In the beginning these part-books were probably the property of the Royal musicians, and then belonged to the Rorantists' chapel (founded in 1543). The musical compositions were entered to the partbooks from the XVI century to the middle of the XVIII century. The pages on which Missa sesunda B. Pêkiela was written was added to the manuscript later. The partbooks were written by 14 copyists (in the catalogue referred to by letters of the alphabet). In the years 1919-1982 this set was stored in the State Archives of the City and Province of Cracow. Archiwum Państwowe, Kraków |
